On May 17, 2008, the Theta Chapter of Sigma Omega Nu was established at California Sate University, Monterey Bay by Diana Guadalupe, Jessica Nario, Alejandra Moran, Melissa Rivas, Oralia Vizcarra, Kanika Rounds, and Rachel Hull. Through the dedication and perseverance of these seven young multicultural women, they were able to establish a sorority that met their needs. Their goals were to provide Latina awareness to the campus, provide community service and offer academic support. These young women strived to uphold the values of Academics, Cultura, and Sisterhood. They also provided a family away from home - something bigger than just frienship -to other girls that felt like the transition to college was difficult. The Theta Chapter sought to provide an atmosphere where women are able to succeed, not only academically and professionally, but also socially as to not forget about the needs of the surrounding communities. Sigma Omega Nu also works with the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition to bring more awareness about ovarian cancer to low-income women in the surrounding communities. Tha ladies of Sigma Omega Nu work hard to imrpvoe the lives of everyone around them, as well as their own.
